Responsible for completing project-based assignments to analyse the operations of the organisation and recommend improvements in procedures and controls. Through extensive and up to date knowledge, this individual will ensure that internal controls and standard operating procedures are not only effective operationally but also compliant with the various national and international regulatory authorities. The Role The role will cover all the activities within the Dublin office concerning Reinsurance, Investment activities and the overseas companies. Compliance • Prepares and presents for approval to the Board of Directors, the annual Compliance Plan• Performs a review, analysis and summary of consultation documents and/or compliance standards issued by the Financial Regulator and other relevant regulatory bodies Reviews products, procedures and systems from the viewpoint of effective compliance and provides guidance to management and the business units as to steps necessary to ensure compliance• Conducts scheduled monitoring reviews to ensure that compliance requirements are implemented effectively • Reports and presents periodically to senior management and the Board of Directors • Reviews staff training requirements for all employees so as to ensure appropriate compliance competencies based on their roles and regulatory/legal requirements • Monitors anti-money laundering policies and procedures for effectiveness and ensure these meet FR and group requirements. Internal Audit • Performs the preliminary survey of operations, functions and activities and gathers information on key business risks. Evaluates the adequacy of the controls designed to manage those risks. • Prepares and presents for approval to the Board of Directors, the annual internal audit plan, which will include details of any specific testing / reporting required for SOX reporting purposes • Builds client relationships through professionalism, facilitative communications and constructive responses to internal customer needs. • Prioritises and delegates tasks to the audit team, supervises their performance and coordinates resources. Keeps Manager informed of audit progress. Manages the audit so that time is efficiently used, deadlines and budgets are met, and departmental quality assurance standards are maintained. • Prepares the audit program for individual assignments and performs and/or supervises the completion of the audit tests in accordance with professional standards • Prepares and/or supervises the preparation of organised, accurate and competent work papers ensuring that documentation clearly supports the conclusions regarding each audit objective. • Provides information and sound recommendations to management throughout the engagement. Prepares the final written report and obtains action plans on audit issues. Makes presentations to management, as needed. General Provides comprehensive reporting to the Board / Executive Management and answers queries and concerns expressed by members of the Board / Executive Management both orally and in written format upon request. • Trains staff and creates a positive learning and working environment through delegation, counselling and coaching of staff and review of their work. Maintains positive team relationships by demonstrating and supporting initiative, willingness to learn, flexibility, respect, cooperation and commitment to the success of the audit and compliance functions. • Other duties as requested by management The Person: Preferably a qualified accountant with 5+ years post qualification experience within a financial services/reinsurance environment. • Professional person with the knowledge experience and gravitas to be an effective and proactive agent of change within the organisation.
